4/28/08 - HOST COMMITTEE RECRUITS 3,000 VOLUNTEERS IN LESS THAN A MONTH

The Tampa Bay Super Bowl Host Committee today announced it has reached the halfway point in its goal to recruit 6,000 volunteers for Super Bowl XLIII. This achievement comes less than a month after the online launch of the official volunteer application.

"The response has been tremendous," said Dottie Berger MacKinnon, chair of the Volunteer Services Committee. "To be halfway to the finish line in such a short time frame really speaks to the enthusiasm Tampa Bay residents have for both their community and the Super Bowl."

Volunteers will be stationed across Tampa Bay at airports and hotels, offering visitors a warm welcome and a helping hand during game week. As regional ambassadors, they will give more than 100,000 visitors their first impressions of the community. Additionally, a majority of volunteers will be needed at the NFL Experience, a family-oriented, football theme park that opens the weekend before Super Bowl Sunday. Volunteers will supervise interactive games, displays, autograph signings and much more.

"We're now entering phase II of our recruitment effort and will begin meeting with area companies, organizations and clubs to encourage their participation," said Director of Volunteer Services Jennifer St. John. "We look forward to adding another 3,000 volunteers to our team as they are an integral part of our successful game plan."

All participants must be at least 18-years-old and will be required to work two four-hour shifts. Although there are no game tickets or volunteer opportunities available inside the stadium on game day, the Host Committee will provide all participants with training and an official volunteer uniform.
